At Shôko Barcelona, we reaffirm our strong commitment to sustainability and the protection of our immediate surroundings. On May 8th, we led a new solidarity beach clean-up day at Somorrostro Beach, an initiative that has already become an essential date in our environmental commitment calendar.

Under the slogan “Beach and Recycling: the best landscape,” our team joined forces with volunteers, residents of Barceloneta and the NGO Plastic Free Wave to take direct action along the Barcelona coastline. This initiative is part of the European Let’s Clean Up Europe campaign and is supported by the Waste Agency of Catalonia.

A real impact on our Mediterranean

The aim of the day was not only to carry out a visible clean-up, but also to raise deeper awareness about waste management. After several hours of intensive work, the results highlighted the importance of continuing to promote these kinds of actions:

• A total of 3,552 items of waste were removed.
• Among the most common types of waste, our team classified 2,400 cigarette butts, as well as hundreds of microplastic fragments, cans and containers.
• All collected materials were properly weighed and managed to ensure their entry into the recycling process.

Beyond hospitality: Biosphere commitment

As a leading name in Barcelona’s leisure and gastronomy sector, at Shôko we understand that our activity must go hand in hand with respect for the environment. This initiative is a key pillar of our strategy to maintain the Biosphere sustainability certification, which endorses our good practices and our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint across all our operations.
